Medical Machining Expertise

Clarent Precision produces precision CNC machined components for medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical equipment suppliers and laboratory instrumentation companies. The medical and pharmaceutical sectors demand the highest levels of quality control, material traceability and documentation, and our ISO 9001 certified quality management system is built to deliver exactly that.

Our particular strength in stainless steel machining makes us well-suited to medical applications where corrosion resistance and material purity are critical. We also machine Titanium for implant-grade applications and specialist plastics for non-metallic components. Every part is produced in our Leighton Buzzard facility under controlled conditions with full traceability from raw material to finished component.

As a family-run business established in 2011, you work directly with the engineers managing your project. This direct communication eliminates the ambiguity that can arise when specifications pass through multiple layers of account management. For regulated industries where precision in communication is as important as precision in machining, this personal approach matters.

Materials for Medical Applications

We machine the materials most commonly specified for medical and pharmaceutical components, with particular expertise in stainless steels and corrosion-resistant alloys.

We also machine engineering plastics, Aluminium and other specialist alloys for medical applications. Our super alloy capability means we can handle materials such as Inconel and Super Duplex for demanding pharmaceutical processing equipment.

CNC Machining Capabilities

Our CNC machining centres and lathes are capable of producing the tight tolerances and fine surface finishes that medical and pharmaceutical components require.

  • CNC Milling: 3 and 4 axis machining up to 762mm x 406mm x 508mm. Complex 3D profiling for intricate medical device housings and pharmaceutical equipment components.
  • CNC Turning: Live tooling lathes for complete mill-turn operations in a single setup. Capacity up to Ø279mm x 413mm.
  • Batch Sizes: From single prototypes for clinical trials through to repeat production batches. Our stockholding service allows scheduled call-offs for ongoing supply.
  • Clean Machining: Controlled machining processes with appropriate coolant management for medical-grade components.
  • Post-Production: Polishing, passivation, plating and specialist surface finishes through our approved sub-contractor network.

Quality & Documentation

Quality controls and comprehensive documentation are non-negotiable for medical and pharmaceutical applications. Our ISO 9001 certified quality management system, awarded by NQA, is designed for industries where traceability and compliance are essential.

  • Inspection: Temperature-controlled inspection department equipped with a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), micrometers, bore gauges and height gauges for verified dimensional accuracy.
  • Certificates of Conformity: Provided as standard with every order, documenting that components meet all specified requirements.
  • First Article Inspection Reports: Comprehensive FAIR documentation for new components, supporting your own validation processes.
  • Material Traceability: Complete material certification and batch traceability from raw stock through to finished part. Every component can be traced back to its source material.
  • CMM Reports: Detailed dimensional inspection reports available on request for critical features.

Frequently Asked Questions

What quality standards do you hold for medical work?

We are ISO 9001 certified by NQA. Our quality management system covers all aspects of production from material procurement and incoming inspection through to final dimensional verification and dispatch. Our temperature-controlled inspection department is equipped with a CMM and a full range of precision measurement tools. While we do not hold ISO 13485 (the medical device specific standard), our ISO 9001 systems provide the traceability, documentation and process controls that many medical device manufacturers require from their machining suppliers.

What documentation do you provide with medical components?

We provide Certificates of Conformity as standard with every order. For new components, we produce First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) documenting all critical dimensions. Full material traceability is maintained, including material certificates and batch numbers. CMM reports detailing dimensional inspection results are available on request. This documentation package supports your own quality and regulatory compliance requirements.

What materials do you machine for medical devices?

Our most common medical materials include Stainless Steel 316 (for its corrosion resistance and biocompatibility), Titanium (for implant and instrument applications) and engineering plastics. For pharmaceutical processing equipment, we also machine Hastelloy C276 and Super Duplex for their exceptional chemical resistance. Our super alloy capability is a significant advantage for medical clients who need a single machining supplier across a range of specialist materials.

Can you produce prototype medical components?

Yes. We regularly produce prototype and small-batch components for medical device development. Our minimum order is a single piece, and we can provide prototype reports highlighting any manufacturing considerations or design improvements identified during the initial build. This supports your development process and helps optimise the design for production before committing to larger volumes.

Ready to Discuss Your Medical Project?

From prototype medical devices to pharmaceutical production equipment, we have the quality systems and material expertise your application demands.
