Complete Your Parts With Expert Finishing
Most CNC machined components require some form of post-production treatment — whether that's hardening for wear resistance, anodising for corrosion protection, grinding for tighter tolerances, or EDM for features that conventional machining can't reach.
At Clarent Precision, we manage the full finishing process through our approved sub-contractor network. Each specialist is continually monitored for quality and delivery performance, and every part is inspected in our temperature-controlled department before and after treatment.
The advantage? Your parts are treated by specialists in each process, not a general-purpose shop. And you deal with one supplier — us — for the entire machining and finishing chain. One order, one quality standard, one point of contact.
Available Treatments
A comprehensive range of post-production processes available through our approved sub-contractor network.
Heat & Hardening
Heat Treatment
Hardening and tempering of steel components to achieve the mechanical properties required for their intended use. Includes through hardening, case hardening, and stress relieving to specification.
Case Hardening
Hardens the outer surface of a component while leaving the core soft and tough. Ideal for parts that need a wear-resistant exterior with impact resistance, such as our gearbox components.
Surface Coatings
Anodising
An electrochemical process that converts the aluminium surface into a durable, corrosion-resistant oxide layer. Available in Type II (decorative, multiple colours) and Type III (hard anodising for wear resistance). Confirmed on our portfolio parts.
Plating
Nickel, zinc, chrome and specialist plating finishes for improved corrosion resistance, wear properties, or aesthetic appearance. Selected based on the component's end-use environment and material.
Painting
Wet spray and powder coating options for protective and decorative finishes. Powder coating offers a tougher, more even finish than conventional painting. RAL colour matching available.
Material Removal
Internal & External Grinding
Precision grinding for achieving extremely tight tolerances and fine surface finishes on cylindrical, flat and internal features. Used when standard machining tolerances aren't sufficient for the application.
Gundrilling & Honing
Deep-hole drilling for length-to-diameter ratios beyond standard drilling capability, followed by honing for precise bore size and surface finish. Critical for hydraulic and pneumatic components.
Electrical Discharge Machining
Spark Erosion (EDM)
Die-sink EDM for creating complex cavities, sharp internal corners and intricate features in hardened materials that are difficult to machine conventionally. No cutting force means no material distortion.
Wire Erosion (Wire EDM)
Uses a thin electrically charged wire to cut complex 2D profiles with extreme accuracy. Ideal for intricate shapes, tight tolerances and hard materials where conventional cutting would be impractical.
Fabrication
Welding & Sheet Metal Work
TIG and MIG welding for joining machined components, plus sheet metal fabrication for enclosures, brackets and housings. Enables us to deliver complete fabricated assemblies, not just individual machined parts.
How We Manage It
You place one order. We handle the rest.
Machine
Components are CNC machined in-house to specification on our milling and turning centres.
Inspect
Pre-treatment inspection in our temperature-controlled department verifies dimensions before finishing.
Treat
Parts are sent to the appropriate specialist sub-contractor for the required treatment.
Verify
Returned parts are inspected again. Full documentation including CoC and material traceability provided.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you carry out finishing treatments in-house?
Post-production treatments are managed through our approved sub-contractor network. Each sub-contractor is continually monitored for quality and delivery performance. We manage the entire process — you deal with us, not the sub-contractor directly. This approach means your parts are treated by specialists in each process rather than a general-purpose shop.
How do you ensure quality with sub-contracted treatments?
All sub-contractors are approved and continuously monitored for quality and on-time delivery. Parts are inspected before and after treatment in our temperature-controlled inspection department. We provide full material traceability, Certificates of Conformity and CMM reports as standard. Our ISO 9001 quality system covers the entire supply chain.
Can you recommend the right treatment for my parts?
Absolutely. We advise on finishing treatments as part of our design consultation process. The right treatment depends on the material, end-use environment, required surface properties and aesthetic requirements. We've been doing this since 2011 and can draw on extensive experience across aerospace, automotive, medical and motorsport applications.
Does the finishing process add to lead times?
Yes — sub-contracted treatments typically add 3-10 working days depending on the process and supplier capacity. We factor this into our quotations and manage the logistics so parts move through each stage without unnecessary delays. For urgent requirements, we can often expedite with our preferred suppliers.
Can I get parts machined and finished as a single order?
Yes, and this is exactly how most of our customers work with us. You place one order, we machine the parts, manage the finishing treatment, inspect the completed parts, and deliver them ready to use. One supplier, one quality standard, one point of contact.
Need Parts Machined & Finished?
Tell us what you need and we'll advise on the right treatment for your application. One order covers machining and finishing.
